At Schloss Vollrads, more than 800 years of winemaking tradition are combined with an uncompromising commitment to quality. Throughout the year, we care for our vineyards with meticulous attention. Most of our grapes are harvested by hand in several selective passes, ensuring that every bunch is picked at its optimal moment of ripeness.
Across approximately 70 hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Rheingau, we produce authentic Rieslings with a distinctive sense of place. Our exceptional vineyard sites, with their south-facing slopes overlooking the Rhine, provide ideal growing conditions. Yet beyond the vineyards and the soils, our greatest asset is our team. Their expertise, experience, and dedication shape every vintage. We believe a vineyard is a living ecosystem that deserves to be treated with respect, sensitivity and passion.

We warmly invite you to visit our Vinothek, located in the beautifully restored former coach house within the castle courtyard. Here, you can discover and taste our Rieslings while our knowledgeable team guides you through the collection, helping you find the wines that best suit your taste.
All of our wines, sparkling wines, and spirits are available for purchase on site - whether for your own enjoyment or beautifully presented as a gift. Prefer to shop from home?
For groups of 12 or more, we are delighted to arrange private wine tastings outside our regular opening hours. These tastings take place in dedicated tasting rooms and can be tailored to your group. Please contact our Events Office to arrange an individual appointment.

New Wine Cellar 2024
With the commissioning of our new winery cellar for the 2024 harvest, Schloss Vollrads reached a significant milestone. Following approximately two years of construction, the modern facility above the castle combines state-of-the-art cellar technology with sustainable design, creating ideal conditions for the gentle handling and vinification of our Riesling grapes.
Equipped with a current capacity of 520,000 litres, two 8,000-litre presses, and traditional oak casks crafted from timber sourced from our own forest, the cellar provides the perfect environment for precise, quality-focused winemaking. Carefully designed workflows also enhance efficiency throughout the winery.
Sustainability has been a key priority from the outset. Built to the KfW 40 energy-efficiency standard, the facility is powered by its own photovoltaic system and combined heat and power units. This enables the castle, restaurant, and winery to operate largely on renewable energy while allowing three former oil-fired heating systems to be permanently decommissioned.
Despite its contemporary architecture, the new building blends harmoniously into the historic landscape surrounding Schloss Vollrads and fully complies with the strict requirements of heritage conservation. For our organically certified estate, the new winery cellar represents an important investment in the future - supporting exceptional wine quality, responsible resource management, and the continued evolution of Schloss Vollrads.
Clos du jardin
Since members of the Greiffenclau family first sold wine to St. Victor's Abbey in Mainz in 1211, Riesling cultivation at Schloss Vollrads has continued to evolve for more than eight centuries. In 2011, we proudly celebrated our 800th anniversary as one of Germany's oldest wineries.
To mark this special occasion, our long-standing partners from the wine trade and hospitality industry, together with our import partners from around the world, joined us in the Rheingau. In the former nursery of the Clos du Jardin, each guest planted a Riesling vine, creating a lasting symbol of our shared commitment to the continued success and future of Schloss Vollrads.

VDP.Prädikatsweingut
Schloss Vollrads is a founding member of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) - the world's oldest national association of top-quality wineries. Since its establishment in 1910, the VDP has stood for uncompromising quality, artisanal winemaking, and a clear commitment to origin.
Membership is a mark of exceptional quality and requires strict adherence to the VDP's standards - from sustainable vineyard management and selective hand harvesting to limited yields and the classification of Germany's finest vineyard sites. The result is wines that express their origin with authenticity and precision.
As a VDP winery, we have been committed to these principles for generations. Through our Rieslings, we strive to capture the unique character of the Rheingau and its exceptional vineyard sites in every bottle.

Bio Weingut
For us, sustainability begins in the vineyard. That is why, since 2019, we have cultivated our approximately 70 hectares of vineyards in accordance with the principles of organic viticulture. Following the mandatory three-year conversion period, Schloss Vollrads was officially certified as an organic winery with the 2022 vintage. Today, we are also the largest organic winery in the German state of Hesse.
Organic viticulture means working in harmony with nature. Healthy soils, rich biodiversity, and the responsible use of natural resources provide the foundation for vigorous vines and Rieslings with a true sense of place. In this way, we preserve the unique character of our vineyards—not only for today, but for generations to come.
Our organic certification reflects this commitment and confirms that our vineyards meet all legal requirements for certified organic winegrowing.
Ecostep
For us, quality and sustainability go hand in hand. That is why Schloss Vollrads has been EcoStep certified for several years, meeting the comprehensive requirements of this industry-specific management standard.
Developed in cooperation with Geisenheim University, EcoStep was created specifically for wineries. The certification helps wine estates continuously improve their operations while promoting responsible management in the areas of quality assurance, environmental protection, occupational health and safety, and corporate governance.
For Schloss Vollrads, EcoStep is another important pillar of our commitment to sustainability. It supports our ambition to maintain the highest quality standards while managing our estate responsibly for the future.

Fairchoice
For us, sustainability means taking responsibility in every aspect of our work - from the vineyard and the cellar to our daily interactions with people and nature. That is why Schloss Vollrads has been awarded the FairChoice certification.
FairChoice is an independent sustainability standard developed specifically for the wine industry. The certification evaluates wineries against more than 100 measurable criteria covering environmental responsibility, social responsibility, and economic sustainability. Regular independent audits ensure that these demanding standards are consistently maintained.
